Submit your science visualizations by April 23 for a chance to share your cutting-edge research!

Open to the ALCF user community, Argonne's 2024 Art of Science Contest is accepting scientific visualizations of your research created using ALCF computing resources.

The 2024 contest will showcase the aesthetics of Argonne's science and technology — from the cosmos to the nanoscale. It is a great opportunity to visually share your cutting-edge research with the public.

The Argonne community and the public will vote for their favorite images. If you have questions, contact images@anl.gov. 

Submission and Prize Details

  • Eligibility requirements
    • All Argonne employees, students, facility users, and Argonne Associates are welcome to participate. 
  • Submission requirements
    • Image submissions must be related to Argonne science or science conducted at an Argonne user facility within the last five years (since 2019). 
    • One image may be submitted per individual. 
    • Must include a title, caption, and image credits.
    • Must review and agree to the image release and consent of use waiver.
    • All participants should follow Argonne Core Values.
  • Image specification requirements
    • Should be science images, not people or tool/facility images. Scientific visualizations, simulations, and models are welcome, as are colorized images.
    • No collages, charts, or schematics. No text included on images. 
    • No use of generative AI tools such as Midjourney, DALL-E, etc. 
    • Image should be provided in one of the following formats: JPG, TIFF, BMP, or PNG.
    • Must be high resolution (300 dpi minimum).
    • Width must be 1,000 pixels or greater.
    • Must be in landscape (horizontal) orientation.
  • Prizes and recognition
    • Argonne recognition: All participants will receive a commemorative button and certificate. Images will be featured in an onsite gallery, and select images will be featured in Argonne’s 2025 wall calendar.
    • Public recognition: The Argonne community and the public will vote for their favorite images. Top images will be featured on Argonne’s website and social media.
    • Monetary prizes: Argonne staff who receive a W2 from Argonne are eligible, and must be actively employed by Argonne on the pay date of the award.
